This is a great story about one of our own local GSB heroes!

Various grades participating in EcoArt campus cleanup! This is related to Earth Day celebrations and a 4th grade EcoArt challenge to create sculptures of beneficial bugs using trash that will be displayed in the greenhouse.

5th graders also created sundials with a paper plate, model magic, and a toothpick. They went outside and used the sundials to make the toothpick’s shadow match the time. This also made their sundial point North, so they were able to identify the cardinal directions from where they were located.

6th graders completed an experiment in science to model high and low air pressure. We used a can filled part way with water, then heated it up until we saw water vapor rising out of the can. Once we saw water vapor rising we used tongs and quickly tipped it upside down into ice water and the difference in air pressure crushed the can. We also observed what happens when we hold a spiral above a hot plate!

Here's a few more photo of our 5th grade art field trip to The Farnsworth!

5th graders created an Earth Model to wear on their necks. They marked Maine and stood in front of a sun they colored yellow. They rotated to imitate Earth’s rotation on its axis and discussed sunrise, sunset, and day/night.

5th Grade took a trip to the Farnsworth Art Museum. What a great trip! A HUGE Thank You!! to everyone involved in making it happen for our students!
