7th and 8th grade students continue to diligently work on their cardboard, architectural design projects in art. They learned about the 20 most common architectural design styles in the United States and they are building their own model homes out of cardboard and incorporating at least one style from the 20 most popular styles. Their model must include at least four sides, a roof, an articulating door and two windows. Students are getting very creative with gardens and Tourette’s, roofs with hinges so you can open the models and look inside. Students have made furniture and painted their custom home creations. Some students have chosen to make mobile homes, houseboats and included pools inside. I can’t wait to see what the final compositions look like!

The air fry dough was very sticky. In the yurt, Ms. Hedda’s Agriculture Club students helped perfect the recipe so the Pre-K students’ dough would be much less sticky. The air fried dough was delicious!

The goal of the after school outing club facilitated by Hearty Roots on GSB grounds is to support the after-school childcare crunch that many families are navigating, and to provide an extended day to promote joy, adventure, and connection for GSB students.
We are piloting this program from Feb. 3rd through the end of May, with the goal of increasing to five days and all grade levels next school year.
The program is open to all students in grade 1st-8th, and we will see what the response is like from kids before deciding to break them into similarly aged cohorts or not.
The two-hour block will include loads of high-quality outdoor fun, decompression, mentorship, and play.
Students participating in the program can come after school to our base (the yurt,) then we will lean into all seasons and explore the trails, and teach hard skills in the forest grounds. Pick up is 4:30pm in front of the school.
Hearty Roots is all about equitable access to outdoor fun with trusted adult mentors. Finances should not be a barrier to participate in this program. Please click on the registration link to find the fee that works best for your family's budget.

While we are missing watching the girls basketball teams- we can’t wait until next week when they have another game - the boys basketball teams have had quite the week of games! Both boys teams won Thursday games, Red against Bristol and Blue against Nobleboro!
Fun fact, did you know that the blue team has TWO sets of brothers on the team?!
If you have any great photos from any of the games you can always email them to Erin Michaud, she’s the Cougar Athletic Team Supporters social media rep! emichaud@aos93.org

Pre-k is keeping busy at centers building boats and ships. They are also reading about weather and transportation. We have done lots of experimenting with wind and water. We have been measuring, moving and learning how the wind and weather make changes.

Kindergarten finds out that shaving cream can be used to create art (and it cleans the tables really well too!).

Blue boys basketball and Red boys basketball played a fierce game tonight with Blue taking the Win by 10 points. The Cheerleaders did an excellent job rooting for both teams! It was an exciting game to watch and a great half time show! Well done both teams on how much you have developed this season!

After 3 days of inside recess, we decided to turn our Kindergarten classroom into an Antarctica obstacle course! Kindergarteners pretended to be penguins. We hopped on rocks, crawled through an ice cave, ate fish in the sea, carried “eggs” on our feet, jumped on icebergs to avoid predators and slid on our bellies through the snow.
